 Indigo Home Screen

Indigo is making it quicker and easier for their customers to find stores, shop in-store or on-line or on the go, earn rewards, be social and save money by releasing the new Indigo Mobile App for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

“Our customers have let us know that they want to experience all that Indigo offers through their mobile devices,” said Sumit Oberai, Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President of Digital at Indigo Books & Music, Toronto. “Our new mobile app will ensure that we’re offering a truly integrated and rich experience across our channels.”

The free app allows you to do a number of things that you would expect from a retailer. In addition to being able to look up items, find a store and check out ratings, you can also look up your order history. Use the app to create a gift list of things to buy for others as well as build a wish list for yourself.

Scan to Buy

One nifty feature is the ability to scan the barcode of any product they have in the store and buy it directly through the app and have it shipped to your home or to someone else as a gift. The benefit is that there’s a good chance the online price will be lower than that in store, since it’s shipped directly from their warehouse.  I checked out The Who’s Pete Townshend’s biography, Who I Am (see video). In store, it sells for $19.99; the on-line member price is $14.43. You save 28%. The only thing to realize is that you can’t pick it up from the store and take it home with you. You actually have to order it and have it shipped to you. Oh well!

The app also has a social component. Like Foursquare, users can check-in and even post where they’re at on Facebook, share their location and the products they “like”.

Passport Support

The Indigo App by Indigo Books & Music Inc also takes advantage of unique features of Apple’s iOS. It supports Passport so you can store your Plum Rewards and loyalty membership and even use it at the checkout instead of having to remember your card number or carry it around.

In addition to being a rewards hub, by using the app’s customization, you can also benefit from things like special offers and personal recommendations specifically tailored to your needs.

Indigo Mobile App for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is a neat little app that’s available free from the App Store. There is also a version available for Android from the Google Play Store.
